Definition of website

DEFINITION OF WEBSITE

A website or Internet site is a set of pages (usually composed of various languages such as HTML, CSS, PHP, JAVASCRIPT, etc.) that are uploaded to a server. These are intended to tell the story of a company or the activity of a freelancer, giving users a detailed overview of all the services offered.

These pages (or if you will, these files) are connected to each other through links and can be reached through a unique url called a domain (e.g. www.ilmiosito.it).

WHAT IS A WEBSITE FOR?
Let us analyze the characteristics to better define what a website is.
A website has the following requirements:

  • It gives the ability to: share pages and blog articles with social media.
  • It can also be consulted at any time via Smartphone and Tablet
  • Allows the user to register and receive the news and offers that the company offers
  • Gives the possibility to comment on articles.
  • Has at least one contact form, for quickly sending an e-mail through the site itself.
  • Built-in Google map, to make it easier for the customer to arrive at the site.
  • Keys for speed dialing via mobile device
  • Ability to include reviews from customers who have used your products and/or services.
  • Integrate online chats so you can quickly communicate with an operator or the site owner themselves.
  • So many other possibilities and functions…

P.s. Speaking today of a showcase site is in fact incorrect, because the site no longer performs only the function of showing or acting as a brochure, it is an interactive tool that allows you to communicate directly with the user.

Let’s describe the structure and features to better understand what it is for.

Generally, a website has a well-defined structure. Of course, to the rule there is always the exception, but in principle it works as follows.

  • Home or Homepage: this page represents the business card of the entire website, so it must be graphically appealing and succeed succinctly in describing what we do and to whom we are addressing, with few words and beautiful images or icons that help us to memorize and understand quickly.
  • About Us: often and often underestimated, it is perhaps among the most important pages, because this is where we need to talk about us and make ourselves known, possibly telling about the achievements we have obtained from our experience.
  • Services/Products: if the business in question sells services then it is clear that the page in question must describe in detail the various the services offered and be able to capture the attention of the interested user, through good text and especially images that can better express a concept. Speaking instead of prodottoti, we will probably enter the world of e-commerce or online sales. In this case, the pages will have a product description, a price and allow the user to buy from the comfort of home.
  • Portfolio: useful for professionals, it is generally designed to give the user a way to view previously completed projects. The most important thing is obviously to make a selection of the best work and thus show what our real capabilities are.
  • Blog: this is a page that can be useful to us in terms of SEO or Search Engine Optimization. In fact, you can take advantage of blog articles to insert content that is “appealing” to Goolge.
  • Contacts: The Contact page, must possess a list of all the ways in which the company can be contacted: email, phone, cell phone, fax, postal address, toll-free number, skype, etc… We must give the customer the opportunity to choose which is the easiest way for him to contact us!

When is it useful to have a website?
If your business involves close contact with people then it is a good idea to get a quote for a website. For example, if you are an architect, a lawyer or a photographer, no matter how good you may be, you are unlikely to make yourself known beyond your work town without a solid web presence. The same argument applies to the merchant who wants to expand his or her sales network and wants to take advantage of the considerable benefits an online store can bring.

Conclusions
A website, allows our audience to interact and thus get them interested in our products/services; to subscribe to our newsletters, to contact us easily via chat, to purchase a product from the comfort of home. It is an indispensable business tool nowadays.
